Advaita and nondual teachings are about finding the Truth. This Truth is not a dogma that you study; it is the Truth about life — the Truth about who you really are. This Truth is discovered, not learned. It is discovered through sincerely inquiring, Who am I? What you discover is that who you are has nothing to do with self-images or roles and everything to do with what you experience when you ask this question. What you discover is that who you think of yourself as is just that — a thought! And beyond that thought is a great Mystery — an experience of nothingness, which is your true nature.

Nothing Personal leads you to the experience of your true nature and helps you explore its depth. Through exposition, questions and dialogues, it brings you to a place of realization of the Truth: you are that spacious Awareness in which everything appears, including your thoughts and feelings. Your thoughts and feelings do not define you but merely appear within Consciousness along with everything else. This Consciousness is who you are. Nothing Personal offers a gentle and persistent guide to seeing the underlying truth of your ultimate nature.

User Reviews

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. This is a simple yet highly effective unveiling of truth, written with great care and presence. We have the privilege of standing unabashed and unveiled before the essence of Life, in gentle awareness of what is, with great acceptance. This is an unpretentious book, clear and well written, and can effect a beautiful shift in the reader. Here is someone who is humble and obviously wants to bring knowledge out into the world as an offering and a profound gift. I know that I am extremely grateful to have read this book, and keep it handy to read not just once, but dip into it when needed. He does not encourage any kind of dependency, on the contrary, there is a setting free.
Nirmala and his teachings have deeply affected my life in a positive way, and I am very grateful.
Helga Schleeh -- LIFE CHANGING
"Nothing Personal" by Nirmala is a gem of a book when it comes to have a feel for what is being conveyed during a satsang or, my personal translation, gathering in the name of Truth. This book covers many of the aspects that are pertinent to seekers of self-realization and seasoned ones will pick up the scent that incites transformation with its numinous prose. -- Advaita Uncomplicated Nor Compromised
Nirmala's teaching helps one to navigate the process of awakening in his own wonderfully unique way. He teaches with honesty, with humor and with warmth. I greatly value Nirmala's writing for being so accessible, direct and clear. He encourages his readers to investigate the beliefs and perceptions that bring suffering and discover the freedom that is always available when we discover the truth. He is an authentic voice of Enlightened Living. I return again and again to this book as a source to inspire me to return to the pathless path which holds all experience as an expression of Oneness, Perfection and Timeless Being. -- A must read on the Awakening Book LIst
Exceptional reading for anyone, but especially those with any degree of apprehension of non-duality teachings or those who have read similar books on the subject and are not quite sure "what now." Nirmala's simple down to earth approach to everything he publishes is just what many of us need to cut through the brush of material available, most of which is either too complicated, too abstract, or too self (author)-centered to glean any real insight into the power of presence available to everyone all the time.

I have come to embrace Nirmala and Gina Lakes' work as the most clear and true guidance towards total awareness of what is.

Aside from this book, I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to all the other resources Nirmala and Gina freely provide on their web sites and other sources. Truly selfless, kind, and helpful. -- Pure Wisdom and the Simple Truth
It is my favorite book now and it has been my favorite book since the last three years.
I like spiritual books. But I don't read so much. Now I've found one book that keeps inspiring me an on ongoing basis. If I take a book somewhere, it is this one. I could say it's changed my life and initiated a shift.
I really recommend this book, for you and your friends. -- the best book for me since the last 3 years
